Sail on and Fly High is a nonprofit created in honor of Sailor Cole Lawrence. The mission is to “be the sails” that help the community navigate the rough seas of mental health, raise suicide awareness, stop the stigma, and be the “wings of hope” for everyone.
It’s a reminder for those who are struggling to keep “sailing on” through the hard parts and keep going until they’re “flying high” and chasing their dreams.
No. Sail on and Fly High is not a counseling or crisis intervention service, and our contact form is not monitored 24/7.
If you’re in crisis, please use the resources listed on the page (National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, text options, The Trevor Project, Hope 4 Iowa, etc.) or call your local emergency number. Don’t wait, don’t guess, don’t “tough it out.” Call the 988 hotline 24/7.
The page highlights several ways the nonprofit supports the community, including: the Community Mental Health Celebration, Compass Crew involvement, a Golf Tournament fundraiser, the W.A.V.E. (Wonderfully, accepting, visionary educator) Award, and the Sailor Lawrence Memorial Scholarship.
It’s an award recognizing an educator who supports mental health and acceptance. It includes up to $2,500 in classroom items selected by the awarded teacher to help students’ mental health in tangible ways.
It’s a scholarship (through the Lewis Central Education Foundation) providing two $500 scholarships to Sailor’s graduation class of 2022, supporting students who spread kindness and want to pursue a career positively impacting mental health.
